Thomas Dowdeswell

5 June to 5 July 2008

Influenced by Cubism, the work of Thomas Dowdeswell breaks apart from in order to reorder reality in a more dynamic way. His bright, geometric shapes play with ideas of motion, order and chaos, his simplified figures engage in complicated interactions. A self taught painter, Dowdeswell has exhibited in the US, France and England.

A Man Amongst Men

The second in a series of paintings based on the concepts of overpopulation and loss of individuality.
A Man Amongst Men is a rabble of chaotic people interchangeably battling and embracing one another.

Jive

Continues one of my earlier themes dealing with the mechanisation of humankind. The characters blank faces lack identity while the segments of colour bring some sense of movement to the scene.

Illuminati

With a similar linear framewoek to Jive, Illuminati deals with characters who fade in between the background and the foreground. It is a scene of secret handshakes and disguised activities.
