Biography:
Lucy Su was born and brought up in the heart of Betjeman’s Metroland, Pinner in Middlesex. Her parents had come to London from China, her father was a poet who became head of the Chinese section of the BBC World Service. The family were a beacon of bohemianism in suburban Pinner, with their dozen cats and six children. In the house every surface was covered in books from his library, browsing in those books Lucy discovered the works of Cecil Beaton, Maurice Laurencin, Rex Whistler and Jean Cocteau.

This heady mixture of fashion and high bohemianism still informs her work to this day. Her paintings are often of young girls on the break of adulthood, tender, ambiguous and touched by mystery, with an often melancholic atmosphere that is unique to her singular vision.

Lucy Su has worked as an artist and illustrator since leaving Brighton Art School. Clients have included The Sunday Times, The Independent, Elle Magazine, Walker Books and Frances Lioln.

She is currently working on a series of paintings for The Teenage Cancer Trust written by author/illustrator Ian Beck.
